By the third candle last December, your seven-year-old was counting the boxes still to come and your ten-year-old was keeping score. This year you'd like one night, maybe all eight, to turn the other way: toward someone else.
Eight Nights of Giving is a Hanukkah plan for that. Each night of Hanukkah 2026 (first candle on the evening of Friday, December 4) gets its own cause: food, books, animals, neighbors, the planet, a teacher, someone far away, and one your family chooses. After the candles you read that night's page together, talk about two questions, pick an idea or invent your own, and write down who will do what and on which day. Coins go in a family tzedakah box as the week goes on.
What is on each page (15 pages, US Letter, prints on A4):
- Page 1: cover. Page 2: how the plan works, with a note that Nights 1 and 8 fall on Friday evenings and Night 2 on a Saturday evening, and what is inside.
- Page 3: what tzedakah means, with a short passage quoted from My Jewish Learning and credited on the page, three ways a family can give, and two questions to talk about.
- Page 4: the eight nights at a glance, with each evening's date filled in and space to plan.
- Pages 5 to 12: one page for each night, with the candle count drawn, two questions, three ideas, and space to write the plan, one thing you noticed, and a box to draw in.
- Page 13: a record of what you gave, the total in the box, and where it will go.
- Page 14: labels for your tzedakah box (a large one, and a strip for the front of a can) and four tags to tie on the things you give.
- Page 15: questions to answer together after the eighth night.
