We build memories the way we would want them built — large, photographed, expensive. Children build them out of whatever was happening while you were both there.

Ask an adult about childhood and you rarely get the holiday. You get a kitchen, a particular chair, the sound of someone cooking, a walk taken hundreds of times. Presence and repetition, not novelty.
It means the thing that matters most is also the thing that is free and available on a wet Tuesday. Go to the playground even though they were on a playground all day. Go to the library. Take a walk. Jump in the puddle.
The walk you take once is an outing. The walk you take every week becomes ours, and that is the thing that gets remembered. Choose a small thing you can genuinely repeat over a big thing you cannot.
No — they just are not carrying the weight we think. Do them because they are good. Do not treat them as the memory budget.
Ten unhurried minutes, repeated, outperforms an occasional big day out. The variable that matters is that you were actually there, not how long.
